Canon Wi-Fi settings can expose devices

Aug 2, 2023 | 0 comments

A new vulnerability was revealed in about 200 affected devices from Canon, that can expose personal information through the stored Wi-Fi connection settings.

When companies dispose of their old devices, if the network settings are not reset, a third party that receives the disposed devices, is able to access the stored connection settings and use it to attempt to access information.

As Cybersecurity News reports, Canon recommends that the settings should be wiped before disposal so the network settings cannot be accessed for malicious activity.

Some devices listed can be reset by using the automatic “reset all settings” setting but in devices that do not have that automatic reset option, Canon recommends to reset LAN settings and then enable the Wireless LAN. In both cases, the company recommends to repeat the process.
