Canon requests more Amazon listing removals
June 28, 2023
Canon Inc. announced the filing of infringement reports with Amazon.com seeking the removal of Amazon.com listings for certain toner cartridges.
Canon said its infringement reports identified the product offerings shown in the table below and alleged that cartridges sold under these offerings infringe Canon’s U.S. Pat. No. 11,199,807. Canon requested that Amazon remove these product offerings from Amazon.com.
At the time of this announcement, the product offerings listed above were no longer available on Amazon.com.
Canon explained that it engages in extensive research and development so that it can deliver innovative and valuable products to customers all over the world. Through its research and development efforts, Canon has obtained a large and robust portfolio of patents. In order to protect its many innovations, Canon enforces its patents against various toner cartridge designs that Canon believes infringe its patent rights.
While Canon had previously filed infringement reports with Amazon.com based on Canon’s U.S. Patent Nos. 8,280,278; 8,630,564; 8,682,215; and 8,688,008 against compatible cartridges having the same relevant structure as genuine HP toner cartridge models CF226, CF258, CF287 and CF289, these latest reports were based on Canon’s U.S. Pat. No. 11,199,807, which covers alternative designs.
Canon added: “Throughout the development, sales and marketing process, Canon respects the intellectual property of other companies and individuals and expects others to similarly respect Canon’s intellectual property rights.”
