Canon goes chip free
January 7, 2022
Responding to the global chip shortage, Canon is going chip free but not problem free.
Responding to the global chip shortage, Canon will temporarily manufacture some imageRUNNER toner cartridges without chips.
Dealer websites advise customers not to panic and reassure them that they can still print. At the same time, advising that “cartridges produced without a chip will continue to operate in designated Canon printing/copying devices.”
Problems using a Canon Toner Cartridge without a chip are likely to include notification that the copier/printer does not recognise the toner cartridge. The advice is to press “CLOSE” or “I AGREE” to continue printing.
Customers may also see a message when the printer power switch is turned OFF and then ON or when a toner cartridge is inserted in the future. The advice is to press “CLOSE” or “I AGREE” to continue printing.
MPS customers may also experience problems with auto fulfilment. If you run out of toner, the advice is to contact your MPS provider.
