Brother receives royal seal of approval

September 5, 2018

The OEM’s UK subsidiary has announced that it has once again received the Princess Royal Training Award for its employee development.

The award honours employers in the UK that have created outstanding training and skills development programmes, which have directly resulted in commercial gains.

Phil Jones MBE, Managing Director of Brother UK, commented: “Our people are at the heart of our sustained business achievements and are our most important asset – it’s fantastic that this has been recognised once again.

“Accolades like the Princess Royal Training Award help us to attract, retain and develop the very best talent. This means we can offer our partners innovative, market-leading solutions, as well as an inspired and motivated team to work with.”

Brother UK says it has some of the most experienced and engaged staff in the sector, with personal channel relationships spanning 25 years or more. Commending Brother UK for the second year in a row, the judges were particularly impressed with the business’s Employee Engagement Toolkit, which has seen over 98 percent of staff complete some form of training since 2016, with over 70 percent undertaking development or CSR activities over and above their target hours.

Phil Jones continued: “Investing in our people helps improve performance, productivity and efficiency, which in turn delivers real benefits for our customers. We see ourselves as an extension of our partners’ teams, and provide them with multiple touchpoints within our organisation, so they can benefit from a wide range of skills and expertise.

“Following on from our success in the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in April, this is shaping up to be a truly special 50th anniversary year for Brother UK.”

The Princess Royal Training Awards, delivered by the City & Guilds Group, are now in their third year. Each of the 90 applications were assessed against three Hallmarks of Excellence by the Princess Royal Training Awards Commission.

Chris Jones, Group Chief Executive of the City & Guilds Group, said: “At a time of increasing economic uncertainty and reduced investment into workforce development it is great to see critical business issues being addressed through impactful L&D. Through the awards we highlight excellent examples of training that have already proved to be effective and we encourage others to build on their success.”

A team from Brother UK has been invited to a special reception to receive the Award from HRH The Princess Royal at a ceremony in October.
