Brother completes new machine tool factory in India

September 19, 2024

Brother Industries, Ltd. announced that its subsidiary BROTHER MACHINERY INDIA PRIVATE LTD. has completed construction of a new machine tool factory near Bengaluru in southern India.

This is the third machine tool manufacturing facility after those in Japan and China and is scheduled to begin operations in December 2024. The newly completed factory will contribute to realizing the Vision by serving as a facility for strengthening manufacturing in the machine tool area.

India currently has the largest population in the world, and the population and economy are expected to continually grow in the future, leading to an expansion in demand for machine tools especially for automobiles and motorcycles. Brother opened the Brother Technology Centre Bengaluru in March 2021 and the Brother Technology Centre Gurugram in May 2023 as service and support facilities with machine tool showrooms.

Furthermore, BROTHER MACHINERY INDIA was established in Bengaluru in March 2022 and carries out after-sales service, technical support, and marketing for machine tools. Manufacturing capability has been added to BROTHER MACHINERY INDIA, and the new factory has been built at the Japan Industrial Township (JIT) in the Tumakuru district, about 1.5 hours by car from downtown Bengaluru.

The completed factory is scheduled to begin operations in December 2024, starting with manufacturing of the standard models S500Bd1 and S700Bd1, and aims to develop a wide range of markets, including motorcycles, automobiles, and medical fields.

Machine tools are currently manufactured at the Kariya Factory in Japan and BROTHER MACHINERY XIAN CO., LTD. in China, but by manufacturing machine tools at BROTHER MACHINERY INDIA’s factory, Brother will build a system that can deliver to Indian customers in shorter amounts of time.

In addition, solar panels are installed on the roof of the new factory as an initiative to reduce CO2 emissions. Part of the electricity required to operate the factory will be covered by renewable energy, and CO2 emissions are planned to be reduced by approximately 600 tons annually.
