Blue Angel: New criteria published
November 22, 2021
The German environmental label has published new criteria to achieve Blue Angel accreditation.
New award criteria for the Blue Angel ecolabel of the German federal government has been issued, and applications can be made via the blue Angel web portal.
In the office imaging sector, it is possible to have remanufactured toner modules Blue Angel certified (DE-UZ 177) where the eco-labelled toner modules help reduce the amount of waste and, thus, conserve resources.
Toner modules must meet stringent requirements for the materials used, for monochrome or colour toners, and serviceability properties. When used with low-emission office equipment, Blue Angel eco-labelled remanufactured toner modules must meet the stringent requirements for the release of fine and ultrafine particles during printing.
Four companies, Armor SAS, Clover Portugal, Memo AG and Ninestar Corporation, have Blue Angel certified products indicating the environmental and health benefits of being reconditioned, with low emissions and low levels of harmful materials.
Editor’s Opinion: The cost of certifying remanufactured products can be an expensive cost of €3,000 – €4,000 ($3,373 – $4,497) for each product. The costs could be prohibitive for small companies that want a comprehensive list of Blue Angel compliant products.
