Another Staples to close its doors
June 1, 2018
The Platte River Mall branch of the office supply chain is set to shut in mid-July.
Following on from a raft of other closures in recent months, employees of the Staples located in the Platte River Mall in Lincoln County have informed the North Platte Bulletin that the store is to close.
The time frame given for this closure is mid-July. A clearance sale has already been launched, with “chairs, select computers and cases of copy paper” listed among the items that have been given clearance prices.
As a result of this closure, North Platte will be left lacking a “comprehensive office supply store.”
Staples’ series of store shut-downs are the product of the “financial straits” the chain has found itself in over the last few years. Between 2012 and 2017, almost 500 of its 2,000 stores have had to be closed and at least 200 employees have had their jobs cut at the chain’s Framlingham headquarters.
The predominance of Amazon is cited as one of the main causes of Staples’ problems.
