Amazon teams up with HP, targeting counterfeit toner cartridge sellers
March 12, 2025
Amazon and HP have launched legal action in the United States against alleged counterfeiters accused of selling fake HP toner cartridges through the e-commerce giant’s marketplace.
The case, filed in the Western District of Washington, names Omar Srhir and two entities operating under the name HP Supply LLC, as defendants.
The lawsuit contends that the counterfeiters misled customers by selling printer cartridges falsely branded as genuine HP products. According to the complaint, the operation spanned over two years, from February 2022 to November 2024, and exploited Amazon’s platform to distribute unauthorised products.
The plaintiffs argue that the scheme not only defrauded consumers but also tarnished HP’s brand and compromised Amazon’s reputation as a trusted marketplace.
Amazon and HP are seeking damages and a court order to permanently bar the defendants from selling counterfeit goods. The companies allege that the accused parties knowingly violated Amazon’s strict policies on intellectual property, submitting fraudulent documentation in an attempt to validate their unauthorised sales. Amazon claims to have issued customer refunds for purchases made through the illicit scheme.
The complaint further alleges that Srhir and his associated businesses attempted to mislead Amazon by providing falsified invoices and letters of authorisation. Amazon said it verified the documents as fraudulent and subsequently shut down the seller’s account.
