Amazon and Epson have secured a decisive victory in their joint fight against alleged counterfeit printer cartridge sellers, after a US court issued a default judgment in their favour.
The joint enforcement action began in May 2025, with all defendants served via Turkey’s Central Authority under the Hague Convention, an international treaty governing the service of legal documents across borders. Epson and Amazon said that without significant financial penalties and an injunction, the sellers are likely to continue infringing under new accounts or aliases.
The ruling, handed down on 14 August, awarded Epson $5.8 million (€4.96 million) and Amazon $1.4 million (€1.2 million) in damages against 20 Turkish defendants accused of distributing fake Epson cartridges through Amazon’s marketplace. The companies also obtained a permanent injunction preventing further infringements.
