THI confirms compatibility of its JetWorld-branded cartridges with the latest HP firmware.
HP has pushed a new firmware update, version 2527B, across a range of LaserJet devices this month. The update is already drawing reports of cartridge lockouts and unexpected behaviour.
Users report that the update affects HP 138- and 148-series toner cartridges, including W1380A/X, W1390A/X, W1450A/X, W1460A/X, W1480A/X, W1490A/X, W1510A/X, and W1520A/X. Early indications suggest that older chip versions may stop working in some models, while newer chipsets remain unaffected.
Polish company, THI confirmed: “We have another firmware update from HP. Firmware number: 2527B. Cartridge models: HP W1390, W1490. Firmware update date: August 2025. Our JetWorld and OXE brand toner cartridges are compatible with this firmware.”
Operational bugs have also surfaced. On HP’s own support forum, one LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdn user wrote: “When the fax phone line rings, my printer will reboot, then once back up and running, will answer the call and receive the fax.” The device was running firmware build LOCHSAXXXN002.2527B.00, dated 5 July 2025.
HP has not issued any advisory, but the pattern mirrors previous firmware rollouts where dynamic security measures restricted non-OEM consumables. The company maintains that firmware updates are intended to “protect the quality of the customer experience and safeguard devices against malicious code”.
For end-users, the advice remains consistent: disable automatic updates if using remanufactured or third-party cartridges, to prevent unexpected lockouts. For resellers and remanufacturers, the 2527B update is another reminder of how firmware can alter market conditions overnight.
