Kyocera Document Solutions has warned of unauthorised parties trying to collect toner cartridges.
iT Web reported on 25 April that Kyocera Document Solutions issued a notice about toner scams happening targeting South African businesses. The report said that it was a first case of this nature but Kyocera Document Solutions is taking the issue seriously.
iT Web described the incident as follows: “The incident involved a person arriving at a client’s site on a Saturday, claiming to be from Kyocera and requesting toner cartridges for “collection”. The customer, sensing something was amiss, contacted Kyocera directly. An internal investigation confirmed that no legitimate Kyocera personnel were scheduled to visit that site.”
Yunus Docrat, Service Manager, Kyocera Document Solutions raised concerns that these individuals are trying to collect the toner cartridges to “illegally refill them and resell them”.
Next steps include informing its customers of the incident to encourage vigilance and advising them to not release any products.
