China expands 15-day visa-free travel

Mar 8, 2024 | 0 comments

From the 14th of March, six more European nations. can enjoy 15-day visa-free visits to China.

On March 7, 2024, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced a further six European nations: Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, and Luxembourg. This change will enable holders of ordinary passports from these countries to enter China without a visa for purposes including business, tourism, visiting relatives and friends, and transit for up to 15 days.

In November last year, the Chinese government announced a 15-day visa-free travel concession for France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia citizens. This policy, effective from December 1, 2023, to November 30, 2024, for up to 15 days for purposes including business, tourism, visiting relatives and friends, and transit.

The decision to include these eleven European countries and Malaysia in the visa-free travel policy reflects China’s wish to reinvigorate international travel and exchanges, which faced significant downturns during the global pandemic.

Travellers planning to take advantage of this policy are encouraged to familiarise themselves with its specific terms, including the duration of stay and eligible entry points, as these may vary based on bilateral agreements with each country.
