Company from Brunei admits to selling fakes

Oct 19, 2022 | 0 comments

According to a report by the Borneo Bulletin, the company pleaded guilty to selling fake HP toner cartridges.

The report says that the case initially started in 2020, where the company and its Managing Director initially denied all seven charges put against them, but on 18 October, the plead changed to guilty.

With the new guilty plea of the company, charges were dropped against the Managing Director, Abdul Majeed.

The Borneo Bulletin reported that the company based in premises in Taman Tasek, Jalan Berakas was allegedly selling fake HP toner cartridges. It is believed that the company supplied “government ministries and departments as well as a medical centre with the fake HP printer toners in 2017 and 2018, raking in about BND90,000 ($63,000/ €64,500) in revenue.”

During the proceedings evidence of the prosecution showed that the company displayed 215 fake HP cartridges on their premises. This was reported to an authorised HP reseller in the country and prompted a complaint and police investigation, which ended in searches of the business premises where fake products were found.

The sentencing is set for 3 November.
