HP, with the help of local authorities carried out raids across Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar-es-Salaam and Mwanza, Tanzania, resulting in the seizure of over 7,000 counterfeit items.

Continued success has been reported by HP. Through its anti-counterfeiting and fraud team (ACF), with the help of local authorities, the OEM has been conducting raids between July and September 2021. Techish Kenya reported that ten major sources of counterfeit HP cartridges were shut down as a result of raids of commercial facilities and over 7,000 items, including toner cartridges were seized.

Bradley Pulford, VP and Managing Director, HP Africa told Techish Kenya: “For resellers and distributors, the sale of counterfeit printer and toner cartridges is an infringement of intellectual property, which can have serious reputational repercussions for consumers, illicit products can deliver a poor experience and damage hardware. Authentic ink and toner cartridges have been developed to deliver consistent quality results that users can trust.

“HP has a strong, and long-standing partnership with local authorities and partners across East Africa, which is leading to continued success in the fight against fraudulent print supplies. The continued success of our ACF programme in the region means we remain committed to protecting customers from illegal activities.”

Through HP’s Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud (ACF) Programme, the company actively educates its customers and partners to be vigilant against fake printing supplies. It also cooperates closely with local and global law enforcement authorities to detect and dismantle illegal operations that produce counterfeit HP printing components.
